Top Down Perspective - A Video Game Podcast

Edit: We're hosted on a new site now with no bandwidth limit, so give us a listen again, along with a new episode for you all.

So as of late I've been getting back into recording videos, but I've also taken on another side project with some of my friends. We started recording a video game podcast (I know, it's an original idea) that we update weekly with gaming news, the stuff we're playing and so on. We just put up our first episode last night so I'd like to introduce you guys to the Top Down Perspective:

http://topdownper...dbean.com/

Hosted by Nathan (Kraznor), Sean (Angel Gamer, although I think he used something stupid on here like Proton Sean) and myself, we'll be updating weekly and I'll link to it on the main page. Any comments, critiques, etc would be nice as we're all kinda new to this. The link above will let you download the MP3, subscribe VIA iTunes or just stream it. Hope you guys enjoy it.

Hell yeah, copy and paste. Seriously though guys, we'd like some feedback. This wasn't my brainchild, but I'm involved in it so I'd like to improve it as much as possible.

SWEET JESUS IT'S LONG.

I caught it on your Twitter earlier so I'm not just being a dick, I did actually listen to the whole thing.

Whilst I've listened to long podcasts before, generally they're a bit more...focused, I'd say is the word. Although there was seemingly some degree of structure and planned topics for this, it was incredibly rambly. Much, much too rambly.

I got a little over six minutes in. That counts, right? Right? Might I also add that I don't normally listen to such things, nor do I watch LPs? So, my opinion doesn't really count on this matter. But I'd totally agree with driving off the cliff (the part where I ended). I'd do that too if I was playing a game. Closed Eyes

We also agree that it was too long. We originally wanted it to be between an hour and an hour and a half but we lost track of time. As we go along with this we do plan to work on refining it as much as possible. We really want this to be something you look forward to hearing and we're going to try our best. Look forward to the next one sometime this weekend.

PS. I didn't use Proton Sean but I still think that would have been funny.

Not everything depends on me so this'll actually happen.

Like Sean said, this one is pretty long but it's all a work in progress. Next week's should be significantly shorter.

At the risk of sounding like a bitch something else came to mind.

Usually a pod cast is a way for people to update other people on what they are doing, such as say a development pod cast. And they take up a large amount of time to talk to people interested in what they are doing.

With this it just feels like 3 dudes updating the world on what they are playing, nobody really knows them so probably wont have interest in what they are playing.

So maybe as a suggestion you could add something to the show to keep people who may not know anything about you guys interested. Maybe have a gimmick such as reporting really obscure gaming news. (Did you know that the SA EVE corp Goon-Fleet disbanded after they forgot to pay some space bills?) probably wont interest people but it would add a slightly "wtf..." humor to the whole show.

Oh fuck... I somehow got like 10 minutes into it and it stopped and started over! But for what I heard NMH 2 is only like 12 hours? How was the game in comparison to the first one? (as said couldn't listen to entire thing again)

Also, I'm sure you'd be pretty broken up if that group disbandment happened, Katie. :p

We've put up a new episode which took some of the critiques to heart. It's just over an hour long now instead of almost two hours long, a little more structured and on focus (just a little), so please, more critiques if you don't mind.

Just gonna post this and update it on my findings as I listen. =D

1) Ok first thing is that I like that you wrote what you would be talking about in the description.

2) THEME TUUUUNE!

3) What "studio equipment" are you using?

4) Its a great improvement as questions are asked to move on from the rambling.

Yep its better. But it just isn't my thing I guess, couldn't finish this one either.

I think it's pretty cool. Like, three guys (one of which is a Youtube celeb...?) just talking about video games. What's not to like?

Second one is much MASS EFFECT 2 improved, I'd say. Bit slow to start but picked up, MASS EFFECT 2 and is more focused but not too much so.

I'll hold off on criticism MASS EFFECT 2 of audio quality since you're still working that out, evidently, although MASS EFFECT 2 at one point I glanced to the corner when I heard the MSN MASS EFFECT 2 sign-in noise, only to notice I wasn't actually signed in. Nothing major, a lot of LPs have Skype noises all over the place MASS EFFECT 2, after all.

There was also some retreading of stuff previously discussed, such as the NBA 07 server shutdown. Also, MASS EFFECT 2. BLOODY HELL. I mean you drew attention to how excessive that discussion was getting so at least you're self-aware, but an obese kid that knows he's devouring the contents of the fridge is still devouring the contents of the fridge.

Overall though, it's a lot better.

Mass Effect 2.

Don't look at me, I don't own the game so I can't discuss it, and Nathan and Sean won't stop talking about it.

I noticed. It tells me that your podcast is apparently ''too popular'', making it go away like free games at the store (I don't care if it was a horrible example).

And I went to open it in Audacity and it failed.
Same for Goldwav, Sound Recorder, and Windows Media Player.
Anyone know a program that works?
